What's Ahead For The Singing News?
Danny Jones says the best is yet to come. “At Singing News, we’re doing just that. We’re excited about what’s shaping up for Singing News next year. For me, personally, it means the addition of several writers to the magazine’s team. When you receive the January issue, you’ll learn about the first of those new writers - one who’ll be taking over the reins of an existing feature, and another who’ll debut his first article in the February issue.” Read more

Mark Lowry's Ashevlle Senior Trip
Wendy V shares some great posts about her recent excursion to Asheville, NC for the Mark Lowry Senior Trip. “I got to thinking about some of the songs heard over the weekend about how it will be when we are all together in Heaven. Many of us believed it just might feel like it did these past few days. Now we find ourselves heading home, going back to our “regular” lives. Some of us might have workplace challenges to return to, others stressful home situations. If we get caught up in those stresses that go with it, it may be hard to retain that glow that we all felt during Senior Trip,” says Wendy. Read more

An Interview With Ernie Haase
As most Southern Gospel fans know, Ernie Haase sang tenor with the Cathedral Quartet from 1990 through 1999. After the Cathedrals retired, he performed solo concerts, as well as appearing with the Old Friends Quartet at their selected dates. He formed Signature Sound in 2002.

MUSIC! Legacy Five--Carrying the Legacy
When Roger Bennett joined the Cathedral Quartet in 1979, little did he know that he would one day become the quintessential piano accompanist in Gospel Music, neither did he know that twenty-seven years later he would be carrying on the great Cathedrals tradition in a group he co-founded, Legacy Five. Bennett became nearly on overnight sensation when he joined the famed Cathedral Quartet, which retired from the road in 1999 after dominating Gospel Music for over 30 years.

Story Behind "Mary Did You Know"
Mark Lowry is best known as a singer and comedian who spent more than a decade as a regular fixture of Bill Gaither’s vocal band. But years from now, when all is said and done, Lowry’s most enduring legacy will probably be the beautiful little song that he wrote 18 years ago as a meditation for a Christmas program at his church.
In 1984, the leaders at Lowry’s Nashville congregation asked him if he’d be willing to write a musical for Advent. He gladly agreed.Inspiration came as Lowry focused his heart and mind on the wonder of Christmas.
Christianity Today has a nice article on Mark’s song and the story behind it.

Alan Kendall's Top Southern Gospel Albums of 2006
Alan Kendall normally doesn’t listen to more than 5 gospel albums released in a year and think they’re worth playing over and over and over again, but for some reason or another, he’s enjoyed many albums this year. According to Alan, “2006 has actually been a year of some pretty good music (and some pretty bad music too of course, but I won’t go into that!). So here are my favorite albums released this year. Most of em are quartet albums, but hey, that’s what I like!”
Do you agree?

Kansas City Homecoming Cancelled for Tonight
Gaithernet.com is reporting:
Due to inclement weather that caused a traffic jam on I-70, the caravan of buses carrying Homecoming artists and crew is stuck on I-70, 160 miles east of Kansas City. The buses have not moved since 4:00 a.m. Friday and still are unable to move. Therefore, the Homecoming concert planned for tonight at 7:00 in Kansas City will not be held and the event has been rescheduled for March 29, 2007, at 7:00 p.m.
We apologize or this unfortunate and unavoidable change in plans. All tickets dated December 1 will be honored on March 29. Those unable to attend the March 29 concert can receive a refund at the box office.
The artists and crew are safe, and please pray for their continued safety as well as the safety of all other travelers on I-70 until this traffic incident is cleared up.
